Biography
Gabrielle Hass is a soprano and a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she received her Master's in Vocal Performance in May 2019.
Her operatic credits include the roles of Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito), Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), and the Fairy Queen (Iolanthe), as well as partial studies of Nicklausse (Tales of Hoffman), Romeo (I Capuletti e Montecchi) and Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), among others. She has performed solos in choral works such as John Corigliano’s Fern Hill, Heinrich Schütz’s Magnificat, Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy. Hass just finished performing with the Florentine Opera chorus for Le nozze di Figaro in October and looks forward to returning for Macbeth in the spring.
She received her Bachelor's in Music from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, with emphases in Vocal Performance and Music Industry, and interned in Arts Administration at the Lawrence Academy of Music.

Teaching philosophy
“I believe that all students can be enriched by a deeper understanding of music. This knowledge can help students to better understand themselves, as singing is a very personal subject. By using a personalized style of teaching for each student, I provide every student with a solid foundation upon which to build their own skills and accomplishments. Once they have been provided this base, I believe it is the opportunity and responsibility of the student to aid in their own growth, through practice and effort. I believe in providing an understanding and encouraging environment for students to work through this process of self-exploration. By holding standards high, but within reach, students are enabled to achieve things they may not have thought possible.”

Teacher Responsibilities
Ms. Hass will teach every student how to improve their use of their voice. She will do so by instilling a grasp of the fundamentals of voice, before moving on to skill- and age-appropriate art songs. She will maintain an upbeat and engaging studio environment, where students can feel free to learn.
Student & Family Responsibilities
Students should come to their lessons prepared to learn, with all required materials - pencil, sheet music, lesson notebook, and recording device if Ms. Hass has made it known the student needs one.
Students are expected to practice appropriately: this can vary according to the student, but it means that they have practiced enough to achieve the goals set out in lessons, while not stressing their voice. Regular practice habits help much more than cramming. A good rule of thumb is to practice for the length of the lesson, five days a week.
Students should have access to a keyboard instrument, in order to help them practice.
Ideally, students will record lessons to listen to them again during the week - this can be done with a phone app or a dedicated recording device.
Tuition is due at the start of each month.
If lessons must be cancelled or rescheduled, the student is expected to give notice in a timely manner – one day is required for rescheduling.
Private Lesson Tuition
Tuition is charged by the month, and is due at the first lesson of the month. The hourly rate is fifty dollars ($50/hr or $25/half). This means that at the first lesson of the month, payment is due for the entire month at that rate. For example, a half-hour lesson slot would cost $25, multiplied by four lessons a month on average, resulting in $100 due before beginning the first lesson of the month.
This policy is in place in order to allow students to reserve their lesson slot for the coming month. Should the student fail to reserve their slot in advance, then other students may claim it.
Lesson costs do not just cover the time spent in lessons – they also cover lesson preparation and continuing education.
This includes:
Plans of study for each student
Bi-annual written progress reports for each student
Creation and acquisition of teaching materials
Membership to professional organizations
Recitals
There is one recital held per year, in the spring, at which all students are encouraged to perform a piece. Recital involvement is free, and attendance is encouraged even if the student would prefer not to perform. The Spring Recital is a time to celebrate what the students have accomplished in the past year!
Other recitals may be held depending on student interest and preparation, in the summer and fall.
Required Materials
All students will be expected to buy and bring: a lesson notebook, their own sheet music, one or two exercise books a semester, as well as bring a pencil and highlighter. Usually the total cost is less than $40 every three months.
Accompanist
If needed, Ms. Hass will provide an accompanist for Solo and Ensemble performances. The accompanist fee is $35 per piece.

Cancellation Policy
Students are expected to attend all scheduled lessons. Lesson times are a standing appointment in which the time is reserved specifically for individual students. Please plan social engagements accordingly. Multiple absences will result in a probationary status and possible termination from the studio.
Lessons cancelled by the student at least one day (24 hours) in advance may be rescheduled. However, after that deadline, lessons may not be rescheduled or refunded. This includes lessons where the student did not show up.
Lessons cancelled by Ms. Hass will be either rescheduled or refunded, according to the student’s preference.
